Voice Quality on Calls Troubleshooting Guide

Many users encounter voice quality issues while using Sanas.

The following sections address common concerns and provide solutions to enhance your call experience:

Why Does My Voice Sound Static or Buzzy on Calls?

A static or buzzing sound often occurs due to a faulty headset, unstable USB port, or issues related to audio compression.

  • First, try a different USB headset and ensure it is selected in the Sanas App for both Microphone and Speaker.

  • If the issue persists, plug the headset into a different USB port and place a test call.

Note

If static is only noticed in recordings but not during live calls, the issue may originate from the recording tool, not Sanas or the headset.

Why Does My Voice Cut In and Out During Calls?

Voice dropouts can stem from selecting the wrong microphone, high CPU usage, an unstable network, low microphone levels, or poor headset positioning.

  • Check that the USB headset is selected in both the Sanas App and your softphone or browser.

  • Review your CPU usage, test your network connection, and increase the microphone input level.

  • Aim to position the headset boom about two fingers away from the corner of your mouth.

What Should I Do If My Voice Sounds Wobbly or Shaky?

A wobbly or shaky voice can result from slow speech, excessive pauses, inconsistent volume, or moving the microphone during a call.

  • Maintain a natural conversational pace and pronounce words clearly.

  • Keep a steady volume and avoid adjusting the mic while speaking.

  • Ensure that the boom microphone is fixed and does not shift while you move your head.

Why Does My Sanas Voice Sound Robotic or Unnatural?

A robotic or flat voice can result from monotone delivery, poor audio input, an outdated voice profile, or incorrect configurations.

  • Resolve any audio dropouts first.

  • Speak naturally, focusing on pitch and rhythm.

  • If issues continue, recreate your voice profile in a quiet environment using your standard USB headset.

  • Confirm that the correct Masculine or Feminine voice type is selected in the Sanas App.

How Do I Fix Echo on Sanas Calls?

Echo can occur when speaker audio leaks into the microphone, sidetone is too high, softphone noise removal settings conflict with Sanas, or the mic is too close to the mouth of the speaker.

  • Use a reliable USB headset and reduce sidetone if available.

  • Disable softphone noise suppression features and set headset speaker volume to around 50–70%.

  • Additionally, position the microphone two fingers away from the corner of your mouth.

Why Does My Voice Sound Muffled or Rough?

Muffled or distorted audio may occur due to poor mic positioning, using a built-in microphone, low microphone levels, or laptop power-saving settings.

  • Utilize a USB headset and confirm its selection in the Sanas App and softphone.

  • Increase the input level and connect your laptop to a power source.

  • On Windows, adopt a High Performance power plan, and on macOS, disable Low Power Mode.

Which Microphone Should I Use with Sanas?

  • Alwaysselect a supported USB headset microphone. Avoid using built-in laptop microphones, webcam microphones, Bluetooth microphones, or non-USB audio sources, as these may reduce Sanas processing quality.

Note

Confirm that your USB headset is selected in the Sanas App under Audio settings and in your softphone or browser.

How Should I Position My Headset Microphone?

  • Position your boom microphone approximately two fingers away from the corner of your mouth.

  • Aim it toward the corner, avoiding direct placement in front of your lips or under your nose.

  • After positioning, do not move the microphone during a call, as this can lead to volume fluctuations and unstable audio.

Can High CPU Usage Affect Sanas Voice Quality?

Yes, high CPU usage can result in choppy audio, delays, or poor voice quality.

  • Open Task Manager on Windows or Activity Monitor on macOS to check for processes consuming high CPU.

  • Close non-essential applications and restart your computer for better performance.

Tip

Best Practice: Regularly restarting your device is recommended to clear background processes.

Can Network Issues Affect Sanas Call Quality?

Yes, sluggish or unstable network connections can lead to audio gaps, choppy speech, or delayed audio.

  • Conduct a basic ping test to check latency; a healthy connection averages under 50 ms.

  • Utilize wired Ethernet when possible, as Wi-Fi can experience jitter and packet loss.

What Microphone Level Should I Use?

  • On Windows, set your headset microphone level between 80 and 90.

  • For macOS, increase the input volume until the level meter shows appropriate activity while speaking.

Note

If the microphone remains too quiet on Windows, apply a small Microphone Boost, around +10.0 dB. Avoid excessive boosting, as this can introduce static.

What Should I Do If Recordings Sound Bad but Live Calls Sound Fine?

If live calls sound clean but recordings exhibit static or distortion, the issue may lie with the recording tool or the compression method used.

  • Ask your supervisor or QA team to compare live call audio with the recording.

Note

If only the recording is impacted, report the issue to the QA or recording tool team for resolution.

When Should I Recreate My Sanas Voice Profile?

It is advisable to recreate your voice profile if the synthesized voice sounds robotic, unnatural, or unstable.

  • Create the profile in a quiet setting, using your standard USB headset.

  • Ensure the correct microphone is selected and speak naturally at a consistent volume while following the prompted text.

What Should I Do If Voice Personalization Keeps Failing?

If personalization continuously fails, consider reinstalling Sanas to reset the configuration.

  • Uninstall the Sanas App, restart your computer, and install the latest version as an administrator.

  • Reactivate the app and recreate your voice profile afterward.

Note

The previous personalization data will be erased, and you will need to create the voice profile again.

Who Should Check the Target Accent Configuration?

An administrator should review the target accent settings. If the wrong target accent is applied to the user's group, the voice may sound incorrect or unnatural.

  • The administrator must log in to the Sanas Portal, access the affected group settings, and confirm the correct target accent is selected.

  • If the setting is locked at a parent group level, contacting the Sanas account administrator is necessary.
